Two of the greatest and most adventurous Jazz artists of our time, guitarist Pat Metheny and bassist Charlie Haden, in a beautiful evening of close collaboration in Germany in 2003. Many of the compositions here are drawn from their album Beyond the Missouri Sky (Short Stories), perhaps especially notably Haden s Waltz For Ruth and Metheny s Message To A Friend, along with an eclectic array of songs by other composers, from Jimmy Webb s The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress to Roy Acuff s The Precious Jewel to a theme from the film Cinema Paradiso. And Metheny leads off with three solo numbers -- including an improvisation on a custom-made 42-string guitar. A gorgeous and deeply satisfying concert.
